Welcome to Tzanjuyú Bay, Your Historic Retreat

Built in 1885 and designed by renowned architect Wilhelm Krebs, Tzanjuyú Bay became the first hotel and tourism landmark on Lake Atitlán. Surviving two earthquakes and more than a century of change, the property has been carefully maintained while preserving much of its original character. Antique fixtures, original doors, weathered walls, long corridors, and architectural details from another era remain throughout the hotel. Like many historic buildings, the passage of time is visible here, and these traces have become part of its identity and charm.

Today, under new administration, we are working continuously to preserve and bring back the essence of Tzanjuyú Bay. The property is a work in progress, and part of its experience is witnessing this historic place come back to life.

Set directly on the lakeshore, Tzanjuyú offers a panoramic-view pool, private beach, gardens, and expansive views of Lake Atitlán and its surrounding volcanoes. Its open spaces and secluded setting create a sense of calm and privacy, while the town remains within easy reach.

Our pool bar is now open, offering a relaxed place to enjoy drinks and a selected menu of seafood and tacos while taking in the lake and volcano views.

The food and bar operations are independently managed by local businesses within the larger property, adding a lively and authentic element to the experience while allowing the hotel’s main areas to remain peaceful.

Tzanjuyú is a place where time moves a little slower, where architecture holds memories, and where the natural beauty of Lake Atitlán remains the true centerpiece.

This is not a modern hotel. It is a historic place shaped by time, nature, and the generations that have passed through it. Some modern amenities are limited, and the building’s age is part of the experience. Come to unplug, slow down, and experience Lake Atitlán as it has been for generations.
